Stakesby Community Primary School was opened in September 1970 and is situated on the west side of Whitby with views across the town to the Abbey and the sea.
It caters for approximately 200 pupils from nursery (age3) to Year 6 (age 11). We have recently lowered our age range and onsite preschool provision is planned to be available from the age of 2.
The school recently converted to Academy status (from September 2018), joining our long-standing learning partners, the Enquire Learning Trust. https://enquirelearningtrust.org/
Our extensive grounds have been significantly developed to provide a variety of natural spaces including a Forest School's Woodland Area, Wildlife area, Pond and Orchard. These are all looked after by the children and provide a first-hand educational experience for them.
We also have a variety of outdoor activity areas including a large school field, a multi- use games area (MUGA) , a mini assault course, an outdoor classroom and an outdoor stage area, which are freely available at breaks and are used as an integral part of our curriculum.

Our grounds have a number of living willow structures to provide shade and visual interest. This one is known as the ‘twigloo’.
Our ICT facilities are excellent and we incorporate ICT skills into our everyday learning through the use of a large, purpose built computer suite; class sets of laptops/tablets; and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms and the Hall which are all internet-linked.
Our site also hosts the Whitby Children’s Centre, enabling smooth and quick access to a variety of support services for our families and children up to the age of 5.
