We want everyone to fulfil their potential at Stakesby. We monitor how they are doing in each session and use this information to plan their next steps for the next day. Every half term we gather an overall picture of their attainment and progress, sometimes using assessment tests. This information is used to quickly identify children who may be beginning to fall behind and need some additional support.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) meets with teachers, teaching assistants, and if appropriate, parents/carers or other agencies to discuss every child in the school and decide if additional support is needed.
We hold a 'menu' of additional support programmes from which we can choose, according to need. These programmes are usually delivered by trained teaching assistants in small groups or individually over 6-8 weeks. The programmes are chosen because research evidence, or feedback from other schools indicate that they are very effective. We monitor their impact closely and switch them if they are not helping to rapidly improve a child's progress or confidence.
